FGTH - SexMix : Archive Tapes Vol 1 (2-CD)

Postby Luke » Wed Aug 08, 2012 6:37 pm

So, a result at last from Amazon, they’ve listened to their customers and taken action—unlike Peel and Salvo.

They asked for this by the insulting excuse of an “apology”, by then lying to make it sound like they knew about the mono issue all along, by thinking a vague promise of a possible download in the future was an acceptable solution (what about those of us who like actual CDs, not downloads?) , by ignoring all contact from fans and band members, and by informing their website owning sycophants to only allow positive comments about the release and those behind it.

Many people are wary of Salvo/Peel now, and well they should be, they've gotten away with the mono issue, so what is the next fuck up they'll inflict on us?

Because their track record speaks for itself, it's not a case of if another fuck up occurs, but when.

We've seen the damage limitation attempts that certain websites owned by Peels cronies have done, ---like superdeluxe edition--- the way they delete posts that are critical in the hope that that alone will be enough to save Peels reputation, they are seriously deluded if they think that will work!

So will it make those named above do something to rectify the problem? Probably not, they’ll be planning the next fuck up/way to screw over fans.

No one who cares about the music would have allowed such a cock up to be released, there needs to be a shake-up at Salvo, and certain people fired pronto. It's in all our best interests.

Some news from Salvo Music on the 2xCD Frankie Goes To Hollywood compilation, SexMix...

Stereo masters have been located and have been used to prepare a new, all stereo version of disc one. If anyone would like to replace their current ver
sion of disc one with one of these freshly minted, all stereo versions then all we ask is that you please send us your current disc and provide a return address. We will then forward a copy of the all stereo disc to you by first class post. Please send the discs to the following address:

Salvo
Union Square Music Ltd.
Unit 1.1
Shepherds Studios
Rockley Road
London
W14 0DA
UK

For your reference, the code on the discs featuring the tracks with one channel repeated on both sides is: *053731. The code on the new discs is: *056837. These codes can be found on the underside of the disc in the ring around the centre.

In addition, those who bought digital downloads of the album can now download an updated version at the store from which it was originally purchased.

This does not mean that the problems are over yet.
Especially if you're planning to buy a copy from a store:

It is likely that stores will continue to stock the ‘wrong’ version of Sex Mix for the near future, until stocks get depleted. Again, as said before, also meant as a reference, the code on the discs featuring the tracks with one channel repeated on both sides is: *053731. The code on the new discs is: *056837. These codes can be found on the underside of the disc in the ring around the centre.

So here's today's question - how can I now place an order for FGTH 'Sex Mix' and guarantee that I get one of the revised new copies? Do Salvo / USM ship via their own website?

I also have a copy of the withdrawn 'Liverpool' reissue...wonder why the copy on eBay finished early? Mysterious!

I also have a copy of the withdrawn Liverpool album. I never bought the Sexmix compilation but will now wait another month or so from Amazon.

Salvo sent me a corrected copy of disc 1 in the mail as per the previously posted information, and it sounds great. Really nice to see a company provide good customer support like this.

Happy New Year, everyone!

The problem with Amazon in this case is that it's a market place, so naturally Amazon can not make any guarantee that no one amongst their third-party sellers will sell the old edition, especially as Salvo has made it so hard to see the difference (a bar code on the disc) because they were trying to sweep the mistake under the carpet. So, this poses a dilemma: if fans don't complain, the record company will not correct the product, and if fans do complain, the risk is that record companies will simply stop selling physical CDs and resort to digital-only albums, as these can be "replaced" at no cost for them. Duh.

USM / Salvo replaced my faulty copy of Disc 1 without any hassle or question; they didn't even need the original returned - just a proof of purchase.

Quick service, and although it should never have happened in the first place (and been 'covered up') it has now been dealt with well IMHO.

Just a pain that the major retailers like Amazon etc. still have the incorrect stock; Chas Chandler from USM / Salvo confirmed that they are just not likely to de-stock as it involves quite a high cost.

Cheers

Hi there

When I asked that question to USM/Salvo they replied to say that they cannot guarantee that any stockist will only have the corrected version in stock.

The advice was to buy a copy anyway; if it's corrected great - if not please send a proof of purchase to Chas Chandler at USM (address higher up this thread) and it will be replaced FOC.

Cheers

Maybe it's been mentioned before, but is there a barcode/serial no. or anything that differentiates the new discs from the old ones? Oh By the way did anyone get the Japanese 2cd version of Frankie Said?
