The Human League - All The Best (2cd)

For example You'll Be Sorry (an excellent song!) was released as a single http://www.discogs.com/Human-League-You ... se/2545239 but only as a promotional single in Canada, but still relatively close to the Secrets album chronologically. Love Me Madly was indeed a single http://www.discogs.com/Human-League-Lov ... ter/212636 but even later (2003) and on another label and only in Holland and only with remixes, the original was not on it. So, it's complex. Is it a good song? Yes! A single...? hmm not so sure if I count it.

About Marianne, it was the first track on the Holiday '80 double 7". Since TRAVELOGUE didn't have a pure 7" per se, I picked the closest I could get. A 7", or a double 7", to me it's a single. I hope that answers your questions? Best/JW

Got your point well right. And thanks for reminding me of the "Marianne" fact. Totally forgot about it. Cheers!

About SECRET singles, if I was appointed by the label to do the track listing, I would ask the group what tracks they had in mind. Perhaps some were alreday prepared for release (edited/remixed), who knows. But I am not asked to help, so all I can do now is tell here how I would do. /JW

a few random points
1.This CD features remasters that are inferior to the original version.
2.rock and roll would be useless on any compilation as it is a Gary Glitter song and no one would want to be seen listening to it.
3.It probably costs EMI too much to licence anything from 90 onwards.

I know the Human League have live concerts from 1982 and the original Colin Thurston produced Crash in their vaults. They should release that.

I was one in the USA who bought the "Love Me Madly" CD-single when it was first offered online. The CD does in fact include the original LP version, but they title it "Dave Bascombe Mix" on the single. I can detect no audible difference between the two. The fan-driven release of "Love Me Madly" had Phil Oakey's approval as long as the original version was included.

All of them. I found this out recently while listening to my mp3 player. They sound loud and distored. That said they do not sound nearly as bad as some of the more recent remasters from other artists and the original transfers of the 80's albums (Dare in particular) do sound quite flat.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a more comphrensive and complete 2-CD collection forthcoming from the Demon Music Group...I've queried this and it is something they're looking into.

Oh, so sorry to overlook them. So taking from the tracklisting it really is the most comprehensive Human League collection yet, EMI-wise, of course. Not having these two singles on would be a total crime.
Most of the artist 2CD/3CD compilations by Demon Music Group are excellent.

From an EMI perspective, yes but again shame about ignoring the two LPs after Romantic? Tell Me When was a massive hit and the Credo album is ace, best since Dare IMHO.

Still missing Seconds, Hard Times and Good-bye Bad Times though.

Agree too about the Demon doubles - I quite enjoy the Echo & The Bunnymen and China Crisis ones the best but the Duran Duran, Blancmange and Heaven 17 sets are quite ace.

To my understanding, The Sign was a proposed single as well...I'd argue this should be included too.

As all of the post "Romantic?" albums were issued for another labels - "Octopus" (EastWest), "Secrets" (Papillon) and "Credo" (Wall Of Sound) - I guess it has been hard for EMI to license singles off them. Moreover, when they are in their worst financial situation ever. Who knows?

All of the Demon compilations you've mentioned have a special place in my collection too.

I am aware that my "Singles" 2-CD is just a factual list, not necessarily realistic from a licensing point of view. I just like to make lists. I guess it would be possible once the rights have returned to Human League.

Maybe a 2-CD covering up to 1990 is more realistic, then it's tempting to have "rare" tracks on CD 2, plus some good album tracks, etc.

About "The Sign" being planned as a single, any link to that?

Not very likely as The Sign was the b-side to Louise (in the UK). I'm sure I read somewhere a single remix was done of I'm Coming Back but it was never released.

You could also throw in

The Dignity Of Labour (choose whichever part, 1-4 you want)
Behind The Mask (YMO vs The Human League)

The 12' mix of The Sign appeared on the Hysteria remaster by Caroline Records back in 2005. The cd is out of print but you can download from itunes i think.

Will have to check that out i bought those Caroline remasters off the net back in 2005. Moni... I think you need your ears checking. 'Credo' is a great album. Only negative i could state is that it needed a few plays over time. But so what? Awesome album. Their last three have been fantastic which takes us back to 1990 and the patchy 'Romantic' album which does have some great tracks mixed in with the average ones. My favourite being the much underrated 'Men are dreamers'. They should do that track in their live set!
