Demon Music snaps up Belinda Carlisle Virgin opus

Demon Music Group has completed a long-term licensing deal for Belinda Carlisle's catalogue.
The catalogue consists of four original studio albums she recorded for Virgin/EMI - 1987's "Heaven On Earth", 1989's "Runaway Horses", 1991's "Live Your Life Be Free" and 1993's "Real".
The deal is is for the world, excluding the US and Canada.
The Carlisle catalogue has been with Virgin/EMI to date and runs out in May.

This would mean we may expect their deluxe or expanded reissue treatments soon as well.
Virgin reissued "Heaven On Earth" as a CD/live DVD set in 2009. So this will be its second reissue treatment.
Wish all of them would include DVDs with the accompanying promo videos et al.

She's a total betrayal of the "new wave" concept but to each his own.

True. But since she's in The Go-Go's (a new wave group), I mentioned her on here.
I think Jane Wiedlin and Gina Schock lived up to the term/concept much better.

By the end of the 80s, what "new wave" acts WEREN'T a betrayal to the new wave concept? They were all moving away from the sound they began with (U2 being one of the biggest offenders IMO, as well as Sting). Berlin's 3rd album, while amazing, is so far removed from there first EP and LP (for instance, Pink and Velvet sounds essentially like a Pink Floyd song sung by Terri Nunn), and resulted in them performing even their most popular, perfect synth-driven tracks in "hard rock" renditions in their concerts. Ministry? Oh right, forgot. He wanted to record tracks like Stigmata all along. Depeche Mode deciding that THEY had meant to sound industrial all along but that dastardly Vince Clark led them astray...

Belinda had some major pop hits, but her albums were also packed with some great, harmony filled "girl band" tracks co-written and featuring members OF The Go-Go's and were definitely in keeping with the sound of the day (think The Bangles--who themselves had gone from Going Down to Liverpool to fricking Manic Monday...). And did Belinda really stray from the "new wave" of The Go-Go's? They were always just great pop music to me with the itty bitty slightest hint of an "edge."

Sadly, the music industry was determined to crush the new wave "novelty," so everyone had to scatter and regroup as something they weren't to begin with--and most ended up having their biggest "hits" of their careers.

Yeah, just looking at the topics in this forum, you could make the case that very few of the groups discussed truly embodied "new wave" throughout their careers, even if it were possible to accurately define "new wave," which it isn't.

So I say, let's all embrace our inner Belinda!

it was a difficult transition for fans, and probably more so if we cling to new wave purity. As a general popular music ho, I never bothered to make too much of a fuss when artists began to "sell out." Hell, when Alice Cooper "sold out" and recorded Clones, I REJOICED.

Yes, that's totally true what you, budaniel and morgan1098, guys said as well.
Many "new wave" acts moved away from their roots by the end of the '80s and made some of their biggest "hits" of their careers during that time indeed. Some liked it, whereas the others did not. That's just a matter of personal taste.
"New wave" is a wide spread term and includes all - post-punk, indie, synth-pop, ska revival, rockabilly revival, new romanticism, power-pop, gothic-rock, ...etc. etc. Historically looking, the term was invented to describe all the groups/artists who have emerged during the late '70s and early '80s after punk did its thing in 1977. Music critics/writers couldn't put them all in one strict genre and invented a wide spread term instead. Music was somewhat at its new start again.
As the music industry always dictates the musical trends, their determination to crush the term was no surprise either.
Bands like Ministry and Depeche Mode are interesting in all the thing the most. The shadows of the past will always hunt them.
To get back to the topic, I'm looking forward to Belinda's possible reissues as she did some of the finest pop(!) songs of the second half of the '80s/first half of the '90s. I'd keep her away from The Go-Go's tag at this point.

I don't know why they kind of always skip releasing her videos on dvd. Hope they include it on these. She is eye candy.
