Why on earth did they put the 1994 version of Great Southern Land on there? Yes, it's relatively obscure, but it's very different from the iconic album and single versions that everyone knows and loves.

On the plus side, I'm glad to see "Where the River Meets the Sea" on there, which was sadly left off of White Heat.

<br>I have ordered The 12 Inches - Vol. 1 (2 Discs) only thing that worries me though is it being released by Repertoire who in the past have been responsible for making mistakes on releases for instance the recent Sparks 12 inches compilation and for shitty mastering. I'm going to avoid buying White Heat 30 Hits as that's brickwalled to hell even though it has the DVD.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who noticed the brickwalling of White Heat.

Also the DVD quality was pretty awful too.

Is there an extended version of "we can get together", or at th very least, a different mix? Surely one of their biggest hits, someone along the way would've made a different version/mix of the song?

Surprisingly, I don't think there were ever any remixes of this song from the original singles. The 2003 "Meltdown" compilation does have a couple of more contemporary-sounding remixes of the song, but nothing like a classic 12" mix or extended version. The CD has "We Can Get Together (Sonic Animation Remix)" and the vinyl has "We Can Get Together (Icehouse vs. Speed of Light Remix)." Neither are that memorable.

We Can Get Together came out in 1980, a year when extended versions and remixes were uncommon outside the realm of disco and reggae.

"We Can Get Together" was remixed for the U.S. release of "Icehouse", right?

Nothing here indicates that:
http://www.icehouse-ivadavies.com/iceho ... ional.html
http://www.discogs.com/Icehouse-Icehouse/master/88002

However, here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icehouse_(album)#1981_UK_.2F_US_release
it says "1981 UK / US release several tracks remixed and with re-recorded vocals."
It does not specify which tracks, which is why I don't always trust wikipedia, because anyone can write anything there.

I'm thinking that "We Can Get Together" was one of the tracks remixed for the U.S. market. Take a listen to the U.S./U.K. video version featured here on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Hh2JVjshg It's not drastically different from the original album version, yet the mix is slightly different. The vocal and/or music has a slight reverb (or echo) that makes the song sound slightly bigger in its production. Or, is it just the mastering or me hearing things? ;)

The US version was definitely remixed and far superior. The difference is drastic in my opinion. I won't even listen to the original.

I've just A/B'ed the 2 versions of the album and I'd go as far as to say that every track is different. Some have different vocals, some have been remixed and some have been re-recorded (at least the guitar or keyboard tracks) - with some a mixture of the above.

This is an interesting topic! I'd hazard to guess that usually whatever version you hear first tends to be the version you prefer - at least that's the case with me. Case in point, I heard the single version of The The's 'Uncertain Smile' first and much prefer that over the album version - even though I know lots of people think the album version is the ultimate. However, I never heard the single version of 'Perfect' at the time and prefer the later "New Version".

Incidentally, I've never really liked the US remix of the 'Icehouse' album. Generally, I find it a little bland/clinical/safe (particularly so with 'We Can Get Together'!) But then I heard the Australian version first.

Icehouse must have been repacked & remastered more times than most 80's bands

That White Heat 30 hits DVD with the promos was plain awful. Why did they compress the video picture? All the vids are distorted. Let alone the sound being compressed.

Absolutely, I put my own version together from tracks that I ripped from VHS, looks & sounds better than 30 Hits

I was very disappointed

I would assume the Repertoire reissue of White Heat 30 Hits will be exactly the same as the original release with the brickwalled sound and crappy videos if that's the case i will give it a miss. What puzzles me is that people were leaving positive reviews on amazon when this was originally released.

Yeah, I'd take the VHS or anything non distorted over that mess. I've never ever seen anyone do that to film/video and sell it to the public. It's in full Pal 720X576, but they took and literally squeezed the videos sideways onto a 720X576 border. Wish somebody would have been honest here and warned us of this mess before I purchased it. Nobody said a thing, here or anywhere, crazy. Other than it's a large repertoire of the bands promos, it's worthless, might as well have been youtube vids.

Guess most of the good reviews here are on audio quality not so much video. Must be that audio folks don't know good video from bad or care.
But I appreciate the audio feedback, just wish there was better video feedback.
