Icehouse reissues

Postby omar » Sat May 25, 2013 12:01 pm

I guess this means that we should all hold onto our 2002 Icehouse remasters . Reportoire's Sparks cds were messed up sound wise quite a bit . Should the Icehouse ones be any different ?

Yes and no, according to this thread:
http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/i ... me.315598/

"Repertoire Records is re-releasing some stuff from Icehouse. "Primitive Man" comes as REP UK 1171 this summer. This one is completely remastered by me as well as REP UK 1170 and 1178, which are each double-CDs containing a lot of the 12"mixes from their songs. NOT remastered will be the reissues "Best Of" REP UK 1169 and the 3-CD set "White Heat". They just come as plain 1:1 copies from previous CDs (Repertoire's decision) and will still sound harsh."

- Eroc

Eroc is a well-respected mastering engineer who used to be a member of German Krautrock band Grobschnitt. For instance, it was him who oversaw the mastering of the Repertoire version of Propaganda's "A Secret Wish". In the thread he readily admits he played no small part in the loudness wars initially but has since seen sense and, with his later work, has tried very hard to keep the original dynamics intact. He also mentions that Repertoire Records are currently on some kind of "Australian trip" that in the near future will also see some Flash & The Pan remasters, again under his supervision.

Thanks for that link ippudo and it's great we are getting it explained from the horses mouth as to what these reissues are going to sound like. So if anybody has any sense they will avoid The Best Of and White Heat like the plague.

Following the success of ‘The 12 Inch Mixes Vol. 1 ???? how the hell can it be a success when it's not even been released yet as they keep changing the release dates [?] Anyway Volume 2 is supposed to be coming out on the 26th August if you believe that http://www.repertoirerecords.com/?p=7880

I understand when they delay releases for new albums pending the band completing their music but all of this music has been released. It's just a matter of remastering the music so why in the heck is it being delayed again and again.

For those of you in the US,12 Inches Vol: 1 is available on Amazon (US) on July 23rd. Of course I'm speculating a last minute change when they'll either postpone it or say they're out of stock!
