Maybe Universal have plans to release those albums themselves?

I'm pretty sure Universal blocked Cherry Red from reissuing Nik Kershaws Human Racing and now are releasing it themselves so who knows.

Hope they finally getting around to do a proper remaster for a classic debut - and about time! The Anvil would be as welcome in a (finely) remastered form.

<br>I know, I know, this topic is over a year old, but I just stumbled upon it, so my apologies.

Weirdo, I would be very interested in hearing your high quality "Fade to grey - Dance Mixes" Version,
[/quote]

This topic is even older now!

Will this be the first time a high quality version of this song sees the light of day?

GRAND 12 INCHES 10 .. Cd 5 Track 1

Use this link to view the page that shows the fifth CD, the track list for the 6th CD is not listed yet.

(some of the other page links do not show the fifth cd)

* Edited to change index link to the most updated page

the luongo 12" mix is already on cd - http://www.discogs.com/Visage-The-Face- ... se/2220320 and according to various reviews the quality is fine - so no need for any body to fork out for your idols box set for that particular song[:D]

Thanks for your contribution.

Actually I was able to answer part my own question after a little research. The song seems to appear on CD for the first time in 1997 as a bonus track on this U.S. compilation. But I am not sure of the source quality for that release and if it would be considered re-mastered.

http://www.discogs.com/Visage-Visage/release/1310490

It’s my understanding that the compilation from 2010 “The Face” is a pretty bad sounding release. Elsewhere (on this forum) I have seen reviews that it is practically unlistenable with loudness issues. You may want to keep that in mind. Maybe someone can re-confirm this as a release to avoid.

Question if anyone knows?
Is the “Fade To Grey (12" Version)” on this release
http://www.discogs.com/Visage-Fade-To-G ... ase/308034
a unique version of the “Dance Mix” other than it may have different fades because it is part of a continuously mixed track. One of the reviews at discogs seems to indicate that it is a different version, but I’m not exactly sure what version or versions they are comparing it to. Another reviewer indicates some of the original 12 inch dance mixes are edited or re-tweaked for this compilation.

Oddly it does not have a credit to John Luongo's "Dance mix version" if it’s the same mix. Does anyone know for sure if there is anything unique to the version mentioned above.

Thanks

Yes, I can confirm that THE FACE best of compilation sounds horribly, horribly loud! Awful mastering!!

And FADE TO GREY in the 'DANCE MIX ALBUM' is just the Dance Mix as in other releases, but it ends up abruptly and Mind of a Toy follows. They just named the mix differently there. And there is actually credit to John Luongo, check out the asterisks and notes in the back cover. I just updated the listing at Discogs, as it was ommitting some of these remix credits.

Thank you very much for the information, especially about the remix credits . I’ll have to re-check later the changes you have made. It seemed to me that there were a lot of different releases that omitted the credit.

With regards to credits it's a hell of a release. I checked the cassette version and the credits are all different there, though the recording is the same!!

Although I believe it's out of print now, I have this version on the original 1983 CD release of this re-issue listed here:

http://www.discogs.com/Visage-Fade-To-G ... ase/220633

It was not re-mastered, but then again there was certainly no loudness issues either.

Thanks Analogue for pointing out that release as well. I wouldn't be surprised if that copy you have is one of the better sounding ones. It seems (in general) with just about everything these days, the harder they try to make all these remasters and "hyped up' box sets sound better, the worse they get compared to a lot of the "Plain Jane Original CD's" you could purchase 15 - 20 - 25 years ago.

Although the original 12" version (dance mix) appears in many compilations in various forms (6:44 full-length, 6:21 early-fade, and 5:36 early-fade), the 'single extended mix' that appears on this release is a bit of an oddity:

http://www.discogs.com/Visage-Fade-To-G ... ease/81712

They simply took everything from the 0:42 mark onward on the 7" mix and spliced it into the mix at the 3 minute mark. In fact if you do just that in a sound editor thats exactly what you get.

Another thing I noticed is that on this compilation:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Culture- ... ase/589646

although there is no problems with compression, the stereo channels are reversed - something I noticed on several different releases and tracks. Though it shouldn't surprise me with all the production glitches and mistakes nowadays, how hard is it to get L and R correct?

Analogue, the first extended mix of FTG is the 6:17 extended mix that appeared on a german 1980 12" for the first time: http://www.discogs.com/Visage-Fade-To-G ... ease/33498 Apparently it was arranged by Visage themselves.

This is not the same mix as the John Luongo 6:44 'dance mix' that appeared on an US 1981 12" for the first time: http://www.discogs.com/Visage-Visage/release/58450 and later on the 'dance mix' album, etc.

So what we have here http://www.discogs.com/Visage-Fade-To-G ... ease/81712 is the 6:17 'original' extended version, which is actually more difficult to find as it has been included in less releases.
