Well, I've got a long version (6'22) of the 'oriental' version of Endlessly. It's on a Virgin 2LP (vinyl) compilation called 'Megamix'.
I guess it's the 'full' version of the 'oriental' version that fades out on the 7". I always believed that this was the official 12" version of Endlessly so I never bought the 12".
I also expected this version to end up on this Metadelic cd.
Don't know if this version was ever released on an individual 12".
Any John Foxx collectors here ?...
What is the version on The Golden Section reissue ? 'thunderbird2' writes higher in this thread that it's a different version ?

Ok so that's a new 12" version then, on this various artists LP compilation. So it's not "Oriental Version" but really "1982 Version". I don't have that compilation, but time-wise it's the same as Endlessly (Sparkle Mix) on the recent 3-disc set. Could it be the same? That would explain ehy it's called unreleased, since that compilation came out in Germany only, not in UK it seems. Or perhaps because it's not on a John Foxx album.

Hi Jonas,
It's not the Sparkle Mix. Heard that one on Metadelic.
It really is a long version of the 'oriental' 7" edit.
So I guess it exists on the Megamix 2LP only.

I was just about to close the chapter "John Foxx releases on cd" because I thought all songs/versions by virgin era John Foxx are now made available on cd.

Nevertheless a very good compilation.

Oriental mix ? ( is that a typo ?) i searched oriental mix on the web and found that it was someone responding to a pirate CD of john foxx rarities where the original mix was on there saying that it was the version from the original picture disc
which I have , so does someone mean a 12" version of the original mix ( which i didnt know existed )

From what i know
There is the original 7" mix
There is the 7 and 12" versions from later in the 80's mixed by Zeus b held
The version on the golden section deluxe is an alternative 12" version

I have not compared the metadelic 12" version to my vinyl 12" but i am presuming it is the same

then thereis the sparkle mix which is differrent but sounds of a similar time to the Zeus B held versions

So question is oriental a typo

Hi,
Well it's not an official denomination, hence the "". Fans call the original 1982 7" version the "oriental" version because of the oriental sound in comparison to the album version and second 7" version.
I'll upload a rip of the long "oriental" version from the Megamix 2LP later.

One thing I don't get is that the original 1982 single version of Endlessly is produced by Foxx. And the 1983 single is produced by Zeus B. Held. If I look at the scans at discogs.com the MEGAMIX version is produced by Zeus B. Held, and it seems also by Foxx (scans ends there). But you say the Megamix and 1982 version sound the same, just longer. And it came out in 1983, same year as the later version. I'm not saying you're lying, but something is wrong somewhere, maybe in some credits? /JW

Hi Jonas,
Yes, I do believe that the credits are wrong. Even the track time on the Megamix sleeve is wrong.
I guess that this version was not at all intended to be released. Wouldn't be the first balls-up, would it...
A rip of the long "oriental" version from the 1983 Megamix 2LP, as promised, is available via PM.

Thanks for the rarity! I don't think even Mr Foxx has it hehe. Good quality too.

John Foxx has collaborated with Jori Hulkkonen on an EP entitled "European Splendour" which will be released on August 19th on CD and 12" vinyl. The EP will also feature two further tracks, remixes of "Evangeline" from film director David Lynch.
