7" mix of Night Train was released on one of the Old Gold compilations in the early 1990s, I even bought one a couple of years ago to get it (not even being that fond of a song!). Strange thought that it didn't reappear anywhere - you have to think it's jinxed or something, poor one[:D]

A funny thing, for almost two decades now they only release "In the Year 2525" from a "dance remix" cassette, the one that seques into "The Anvil" at the tail end! The original was only released on the 1993 compilation. What is it with them?

As for the new compilation - WHAT A WASTE! Don't they think at all or maybe they have some perverse satisfaction from putting (almost) exactly the same bunch of songs out again and again? A couple of session tracks (a good one and a crappy one) don't really justify buying the CD.

I don't know of any Old Gold that has the 7" version, but "A kick up the 80s" did, but I was told it was false alarm and that it was the album version. I believe the owners of the tapes simply hand over the same tapes over and over to the labels that licence the tracks, it's faster, cheaper and not least easier not to have to do any tapes research.

Nope you're wrong. I've got the Kick Up The Eighties CD and it is absolutely the single mix on there. And the Kick Up The Eighties series were indeed issued by Old Gold

Oh, I have that comp as well. Now, does this 7" single mix sound like the video version? Does it have that louder booming sound at the chorus? Like when he sings Night Train it's loud and cinematic and not low and quiet like every other version. I hope someone knows what I mean LOL.

Oh yes, just listened, and that is it! I've had this cd since 1991 and didn't realize I had this version all along. It has the booming echoey vocals at the chorus. So thrilled! There's one currently listed on Ebay if anyone's interested.

Hey pinkyblue82 - any chance you'd share that track with us on here, since the CD is long OOP, I'd like to hear that MP3.

Thank you!

I'm sorry but I have yet to embrace the digital age. I still make mixed cassette tapes.

No worries PB82! :)

I found a used CD copy online, so when it comes in I'll digitize and share, since it's an OOP track.

:)

Duh, I used to have that CD but sold it because I read somewhere, or someone convinced me it was the LP version.

Anybody received that one? Any comments? Are those BBC session versions worth it? And are they actually on it?

Ok I just got the CD now. The booklet is alright, two pages of info ("the story") plus some photos. As usual my fingers leave an eternal mark on the black booklet, I hate that. And no I don't have greasy or sweaty hands, just normal. The BBC version of The Anvil sounded a lot like to album version to me, but then again I only listened to it once and there are so many "original" versions of it that I get lost comparing it. The BBC version of Can You Hear Me is not too different but at least I don't have to listen to that dreadful saxophone (who came up with the idea to mix synthesizer Music with saxophone???). So, just this track alone is worth the price of the CD if you ask me. A strange thing is that there are no dates at all for the BBC versions in the booklet, not even the year. It just says BBC (c) 2008 (!) /JW
