Minor Detail is a (vinyl) rip

Minor Detail is a (vinyl) rip

I ripped this album to WAV files years ago but still had to use software to reduce the crackling and popping. I was looking so forward to a clear, pristine intro on Why Take It Again, a crackle-free version of the atmospheric Columbia, plus with the album being so electronic I thought a version remastered from the original tapes would sound amazing. I bought the new release on iTunes sight unseen. My rip sounds better. "Disappointed" doesn't begin to describe it. If you buy it, check out the particularly nasty pop about 5 seconds from the end of Columbia. It's still great music, just know that you're buying a piece of vinyl.

:( That's too bad, because I was looking forward to a clean version as well! I ripped my vinyl about 7 years ago, and it has pops/ticks in it that I was hoping to not have with this recent release. [:(!]

Thanks for the head's up!

I've got a real love/despise relationship going with Renaissance. Their catalog has some great titles but now they've botched two of my all time favorite albums - this and Vitamin Z's "Rites Of Passage" (bizarre outros on most of the album tracks as discussed on another topic). I mean if you're going to use vinyl at least clean it up. I used $30 software to clean mine, I'd imagine a record label could spring for something a little more professional. I think I'll wait for reviews from others about upcoming releases (e.g. Slow Children) before buying any more stuff from Renaissance.

Yes, I've been meaning to post about this. I started a thread about the label not too long ago because of their great release schedule. So far, I have purchased tracks from the Minor Detail and Iam Siam reissues. All are lousy vinyl transfers. I don't currently have the time/ability to do my own rips, so I am stuck with these. I was really excited about the upcoming Payolas reissue but now will avoid any and all RDEG stuff. As others have said, I wouldn't mind a vinyl transfer so much if something was done to clean them up a bit.

Payola$ reissue? Which one? Payola$ are too long overdue for CD releases. None of their albums have been released on CD, correct? It really amazes me that this is still the case after all these years. I wonder if someone can persuade Universal Music Canada to reissue their back catalog on CD? Blue Peter's back catalog was reissued on CD in 2007.

It's No Stranger To Danger. And I also can't believe that none of their albums ever made it to CD.

There are people out there who who brilliant work transferring from vinyl and cleaning the music up. They mainly do 12"s but maybe they could be approached to work 'on behalf' of the group. The 2 that come to mind run
Burning the ground
Fun with Vinyl

Both have a donations pot. You'd just need someone with a clean original.
