Depeche Mode 2013 reissues

Depeche Mode 2013 reissues

Postby Rubellan » Tue Aug 20, 2013 9:15 pm

There are a load of Depeche Mode reissues listed on Amazon UK as coming out in 2 disc sets in October on Sony. No other details though. Anyone know anything about these? I was VERY pleased with the last reissues in 2006/2007 (Up to Violator, that is), so I'm not sure if these are just some sort of Sony repackaging.

have no direct info on those, but as Sony has repacked the single disc editions, I would imagine this being the case.

Looks to be a repackaging now that Sony has acquired distro rights to the Depeche Mode Mute catalogue (via BMG Rights Management, which bought Mute after UMG had to divest it to get its EMI purchase approved. Got that?!)

I also was very pleased with the 2006/2007 reissues. Good documentaries for every album. Good presentation. Couple of bonuses.

If you (just like me) already have this PLUS the 6 single box sets (which were re-released in 2004 with the addition of box 4, 5 & 6), then there's nothing of any interest for the new 2013 reissues me thinks.

I alreday "planned" what a 2-CD (or 3-CD) would look like for their 80s albums. I had these lists online for a Little while, but removed them to avoid confusion as to what is actually released and what is discoginfo Dreams.

What they need to put out is Best of Depeche Mode, Vol. 2 dvd and include the rest of the videos they didn't put on Vol. 1 including the rare ones like "Leave In Silence", "Get The Balance Right", etc. Why put out something called Vol. 1 and not have another volume?!?

They should also release concert dvd's from the Black Celebration and Violator eras and tv performances dvd would be just incredible.

I'm still waiting for the Hammersmith 82 concert that was broadcast by BBC to appear on DVD :-). Or even CD.

Funny, I recently ordered the first six of the 2CD sets, EU EMI, for a friend. Maybe I should save them and peddle them off to a collector after these Sonys come out. I think the ones I have are a third pressing (with the first being the SACD editions).

If Sony had any brains, they would make these SACD/CDs + DVDs, for those who missed out the first time. The asking prices of some of those, such as Black Celebration, are pretty high.

The single disc reissues are on sainsburys priced at £4.99 and were released two weeks ago. The collectors edition ones on Amazon honestly just look like reissues of the 2006 ones with the DVD's. It would be nice if they could remaster the first 3 single box sets as they sound like shit compared to 4,5 and 6 if you are making up a compilation.

The remasters were ok but in my opinion the extras could have (and should have) been put on the same CD as the album.

The Hammersmith 82 show was never broadcast by the BBC. The show was recorded for an official VHS release that was later aborted. Danish TV got hold of the masters and broadcast them back in the 80's. I doubt the masters still exist anywhere.

I agree that a comprehensive DVD would be great.

And that's exactly how their deluxe reissues should have been!

^Would have been a total improvement^
Just to please us silly Americans we could add:

Master & Servant (US Black & Blue Version) 8:02 [Joseph Watt (Razormaid!)]
(Set Me Free) Remotivate Me (US 12" Mix) 7:59 [Joseph Watt (Razormaid!)]
Flexible (Deportation Mix) 4:38 [Bert Bevans] <- Kind of unnecessary but for the completists.

As well, not on 'Some Great Reward' but somewhere, sometime the other completely ignored US remixes for:
It's Called A Heart [Joseph Watt (Razormaid!)]
But Not Tonight [Robert Margouleff]

Yes Joseph Watt (Mr Razormaid) remixed more or less everyone in the 80s. Usually he only re-edited, meaning he didn't change the sound or mix as such, but made parts longer by looping and repeating parts (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, keeping the original intact while making it longer). But I found out these mixes he/they did weren't always properly authorized, at least not by the artists themselves (it may have been via a standard licensing through the record company, leaving the artist out of the process) (I found this out while working on my book on Yello). Also they were usually sold exclusively, mainly on a subscription basis to DJs. So, licensing those mixes might be hard, although I have seen some mixes on some CDs. Finally, on CD 2, I beleieve I calculated the total duration (78 min is maximum) which is also why I had to leave some out (there is a solution, to give the missing mixes out for free as MP3, but of course that's not ideal :) Thanks/JW

This could be good news - and I have all the original deluxe sets - if the second disc was audio and not DVD...prefer to have all the extra tracks on a CD.
