A series of Cabaret Voltaire releases coming out

Postby elviscaprice » Tue Nov 05, 2013 9:08 am

Did good on that price. As far as being sold out the CD edition. From my understanding there is no limit on this edition, just the signed additional vinyl set is limited to 700 copies. Amazon UK was probably limited to a certain number of initial copies for pre-sale.
You just never know with a release like this. If too many copies are made and not enough demand the price in 6 months could be half this amount or less. If not enough copies are made or it's decided it's not worth making more, well, then the price could be twice this amount in 3 to 6 months. My guess is that on past releases by Cabaret Voltaire, this will be available at a reduced cost in the future.

The box-set is back on Amazon UK again and costs 80.67 British pounds:

Also if you haven't read the latest Classic Pop Magazine issue yet, the box-set has been chosen as their Best Reissue.

Really looking forward to this. If Amazon UK deliver on Monday next week will be a Cabaret Voltaire week!!! My VHS of 'Gasoline' can be finally retired to the loft (hopefully)! Probably the best videos of the decade. Even considering showing it to the media/ film students at the college where I work as with all the tech they have these days they can't achieve what was done on that!!!

Okay. Andy Jones in Classic Pop wrote:
"One box, four remasters on both CD and vinyl, two bonus CDs and two DVDs. Where to start?
On its 30th anniversary, The Crackdown is the ideal choice with the memorable 24 24, the driving Animation and Just Fascination, all with a mesmerising edge that reaches a sinister peak with Crackdown and In The Shadows. The mighty Double Vision, with its brooding ambience, is still breathtaking three decades on.
Micro-Phonies might've been released later but its production values date it more, yet Cabaret classics Sensoria and Do Right lift it to 'essential' status.
The aggressive funk on the Drinking Gasoline EP makes it the weakest of the four releases.
With The Covenant, The Sword And The Arm Of The Lord, however, production values go up. We get dark and slow on Golden Halos, while I Want You and The Web show a more commercial side of the Cabaret sound. It was also a sound just made for the 12", as displayed on one of the bonus CDs.
The box is completed with two DVDs: live shows and Gasoline In Your Eye, which is a great document of the band's experimental visual side, the excellent Sensoria still a highlight.
This is the ultimate document of one of our most influential bands."

The closer the release date gets the more excited I am!!! The box-set will make me countless hours of pure pleasure/enjoyment. "Gasoline In Your Eye", alongside the Sisters Of Mercy's "Wake", New Order's "Substance", Joy Division's "Here Are The Young Men" and The The's "Infected", is one of the finest video releases of the '80s. The Cabaret Voltaire videos from the time are just ideal for showing to the media/film students. They should learn from their example. The thing they did with analogue equipment just can't be matched with the nowadays's digital one at all. Well said that, GJH! The week beginning with November 11 2013 will be my special Cabaret Voltaire one too!!! [8D]

<br>Okay, looking over my videos I notice that the following 2 important videos will not be include in the 8385 collected works or audio. Looks like one is in Code, Don't Argue, if it's the same track. Maybe the extended version of Here To Go might work off of code?

Here To Go - 3:13 single
Don't Argue - 4:25 single

Could someone please share these two audio tracks in lossless format, flac or better? I need these two tracks to remaster the videos. As with all who share in my project you shall receive the videos in final form.

Those two videos you've mentioned weren't included in the collection because they were originally released for Parlophone Records. And this is the Virgin-era box-set. That's the right reason. Richard H. Kirk had been working very hard to move all the band's Virgin back catalogue onto Mute Records over the past two years. That's what he said in an interview of a couple of months back. I just deeply hope he does the same with the Parlophone one too. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for that! Also hope the "Shakedown" and "Trust In The Lord" videos would see the DVD release any time soon as well.

Got ya, Sensoria, was what I suspected. Have those other two videos also and shall go ahead looking to remaster for who knows if ever they shall be released, let alone the quality being sufficient for my taste.

You're welcome, Elvis! If Richard H. Kirk ever considers to continue with the band's similar done post-Parlophone remasters/reissues, I also do hope the "Colours" video would see its DVD release too. The full Cities In The Park performance from 1991 as well.
Hence, I spotted the individual "Micro-Phonies" and "The Covenant..." remasters that come with bonus tracks are being sold on eBay at the moment. Japanese editions.

Awesome, sounds great. Is the sound in PCM on the videos? What are the sound options?
Thanks

Got mine today and have to agree it looks, sounds and smells great (reminds me of the smell of the printed sleeves of vinyl when you used to unwrap the plastic wrapping back in the 80s)!!!! Considering the age of the video material it is very passable and the Sensoria video still blows me away with the camerawork, edits and simple madness!!! It will keep me busy for weeks. Would love to have a week off work to go through the lot thoroughly. Great to see and hear my favorite Cabs song 'Animation' played live at a concert I almost went to in '84.
Brilliant. A great early Xmas present to myself.

Haven't checked the sound options yet. So can't tell anything at all. Unfortunately. *sighs and shudders* ...But will do either tomorrow or the day after and then tell you all about that. Am just too excited to say anything else!!!

P.S. There's a great review as well as a short interview with Richard in the latest Record Collector issue:

The Cabs' official Facebook page is quite lively at the moment too:

Hey Elvis! Checked both DVDs and didn't notice any sound options at all. So you have to listen to them just as they are.
Also there's a credit card sized coupon with an unique code to access the download of 4 additional period tracks that Richard felt were missing, but didn't fit aesthetically on to a physical format as well. "Empty Walls", "Safety Zone", "Bad Self Pt.1" and "Drink Your Poison".
