Which artists do you think have aged gracefully, musically wise? In other words, which artists are still at the top of their game, if not higher than ever, still producing quality music?

I say New Order and Pet Shop Boys still have it. Solid albums over and over. Even Depeche Mode still has it (I say this after the release of Playing the Angel).

Sonic Youth, The Fall and The Church.

Also, two that went away and came back to kick some major ass:

The Buzzcocks and Mission Of Burma.

Bryan Ferry. That's who I first thought of when I read the question. The next guy would be Chris Isaak. Both have not only physically aged well, but their live performances are top notch hands-down some of the best I've ever seen (alright, so I'm referring to a gig Roxy Music did years ago, but still...). I can't say that about NewOrder since they play shitty festival 30-minute gigs out in the desert here in SoCal and DeMode hasn't cut a decent album since Songs Of Faith And Devotion. One band I really missed this time around is Steely Dan. Now THERE's another group that aged like fine scotch whiskey[8D]

I saw Culture Club back in 1999 and they sounded better then ever. Boy George had tons of energy, his voice was unreal and the music was tight. A most excellent performance and probably one of the best I'd ever been to. I'm not even a big fan of CC at all and I can still say that they were that good.

I haven't heard or seen much of the Boy for years (and nothing from CC, for that matter), but from what little I've heard, Boy George's voice UTTERLY DEFINES "aged like fine wine". His voice is amazing ! "The Crying Game" is stupendous! There's no way I could ever hope to approach such singing chops, no matter how hard I try in the shower[:p]. What a voice.(his, not mine).

Patti Smith. I gotta say, that NWO outing to the Bowery Ballroom the night before new year's eve was pretty amazing. Her over 2-hr set clearly showed she had lost NONE of her spit and fire. Not among my very favorite artists, but I sure got serious respect for her.

Gang of Four also had that same edge. Extremely crunching sound at the two concerts I saw last year. But both these relate to concerts. There's very very few releasing great new material. I'll say again that last couple of year have been epic for these "fine wine" type bands - Heaven 17, DMode, New Order, A-Ha, Echo & the Bunnymen...

I agree with Depeche Mode.

With the last album composed by the original five members, Duran Duran deserves mention here. Hopefully next year they'll release an album as good or greater than Astronaut and fans will start to forget about the decade-plus drought.
