Bowie 12"...

[danadotcom]

Not CD issues, but good news nonetheless...I've just caught word that on June 11 Bowie's official website will be selling downloads of his EMI 12" singles. This is huge news for me since I have every 12" version EMI put out for Bowie and have ALWAYS wanted them digitized. Apart from the Japanese CD EP of Never Let Me Down, I've never been aware of these versions of these songs ever appearing on disc. There's list of the tracks on the site that will be available. The only things missing are the 12" from Let's Dance, but that's no big ommission since those 12" versions were merely the LP versions.

[Jeffrey]

This is incredible news!!! I've been wanting certain 12-inch mixes of David Bowie for years now and have been waiting, somewhat patiently, for the CD reissues to have the bonus tracks!!! Bowie is, as ALWAYS, ahead of the game with this one. Too bad other artists can't benefit from the same thing as David does. Mr. Bowie is an astute business man that certainly has control of his back catalog. Maybe others will soon follow his lead.

Thanks for this glorious information.

Great news indeed. I'd just sourced some new vinyl rips to begin click removal on and now I wont need to. Now I just need to remember to keep my eyes open for these releases.

[mojowkn]

Dana -- I think there are a couple of different versions on the Let's Dance 12"s -- at least I seem to recall a Shake It remix. But that does not diminish the validity of your overall point.

Also, For everyone who didn't want to spend the 15 minutes hunting around davidbowie.com for the details (like I just did - it's in the News section under March 30), here they are repeated:

Hey Mojowkn,

Thanks for the intricate details. I too had a problem finding the details on the website. I appreciate all the work you did to find them.

I know you said that they will be on iTunes, but what about other places, like Beatport.com which lets you download in WAV files as opposed to MP3 and MP4 files.

Thanks immensely!

there *is* a "shake it" remix, and it's great. maybe one day...
but i am thrilled by the all the remixes from "tonight." especially "dancing with the big boys"- i had those on a cassingle that i wore OUT.

oh, hi everyone that remembers me, it's been a year and half, i'm back.

[danadotcom]

Mojo...I had no idea, and I thought I knew just about all ther was to know about Bowie. I would LOVE to have this mix of "Shake It" now!!! Bowie is a shrewd business man; this piece of music has to appear somewhere, especially if there is interest $hown.

[bigwavedave]

This is great news! It's also cool to see how many others also love Bowie's 80's output. I know the critics and Bowie purists feel otherwise, but Let's Dance, Tonight and Never Let Me Down are the three Bowie albums I dig most. Throw in his soundtrack songs (especially "This Is Not America" with Pat Metheny), and you've got a much more solid body of work in the 80's then he is given credit for.

My only wish is that these would also be reissued as a box set of cd singles.

[mojowkn]

I'm traveling this week but will get the remix posted ... assuming I've actually remembered to rip it ... otherwise it will probably take a month like it did last time.

[moni]

I see Too Dizzy is yet again missing Bowie must really hate that song.
