Morrissey In Seattle 11/29

Morrissey kicked off his latest tour in Seattle last night. It was my first time seeing hime live, so I don't know if any of the band members were new (Bozz Burrell was on one of the two guitars, of course), but they were smoking hot, high volume and high energy throughout. Morrissey's voice was fantastic as well.

Morrissey seemed to be in a good mood, and even kept his anti-thanksgiving turkey recommenation pretty tame, simply pointing out that commercially raised turkey is "80% antibiotics".

I counted five Smiths songs, including "This Charming Man", "Is It Really So Strange", "Ask", a great jangly version of "Cemetary Gates", and a double guitar assault on "How Soon Is Now". Hearing the band's incredible live take on "How Soon..." gave me a real appreciation for Johnny Marr's ability to pull off that energy and sound on the original studio recording.

The show only lasted 80 minutes, ending dramatically during the first encore. Audience members were starting to break through security and run up to grab/kiss/hug Morrissey on stage, but complete mayhem broke loose when Morrissey ripped off his shirt. This resulted in complete mayhem with people rushing the stage and mobbing Morrissey until he left the stage before the song ended. In the end I couldn't tell if he intentionally cut the show short due to the mob, or if it was all part of his scheme to exit in grand fashion. Either way, a highly recommended show if it comes your way!

Thanks for the review bud...Im going to Fri's show here in Vegas, this will be my 9th time seeing him, he puts on a fabulous show.

Boz Boorer is the name of his guitarist, and the rest of his band, are pretty new.

He ends alot of his shows that way, as most end that way: a fan or fans rush the stage, and he walks off.

Thanks for the info DJ Phoenix. I heard Boz's name years ago; so I am guessing he has been with him since at least the early 90s? A very talented band, to be sure.

With regard to the ending, do you think Morrissey digs the stage rush? My guess is that he enjoys it because it makes for a dramatic ending. He definitely seemed to be taunting/daring his fans when he tore his shirt off.

Boz has been with him(as one of his main co writers/guitarists) since the late 80's, and has been the only constant member of his solo career thus far. The Walker Bros, and Jesse Tobias are fairly new, they've been on 2 albums I think, with a smattering of people here and there. They are good musicians, but nothing beats the lineup of: Moz/Boz/Alain Whyte/Gary Day and Spencer

I dont think Morrissey minds the occasional stage diver/hugger, but when a groupd of people start doing it, and it becomes a madhouse,thats when he abruptly leaves the stage. He eats it up Im sure.....he walks off gracefully, and thats usually how the shows end.

Personally, I think people should wait till the second encore to "stage invade", that way, they're not going to miss out on much, you know? you got tossed w/1-2 songs left, instead of getting tossed near the beginning of the show. That defeats the whole purpose of you going right? but for some reason, they dont "get that". Not to mention, it could ruin things for others, as Morrissey might cut a show short because of it. Why should you, me, or anyone else have to suffer from someone else's jackassery?

I'm also not into: slam dancing/moshing & don't know why it's still done to this day? banging into a random stranger during a fucking song you hear on an almost daily basis isn't something I would go bragging to my friends about. Who cares really?

Thanks for the feedback. That's exactly how it went down in Seattle; the occassional intruder didn't cause a fuss, but he did walk off when the larger mob made got ahold of him. Because it was during the first encore, I felt like he maybe cut it short by only one or two songs.

Based on his history and what you have shared, I feel fortunate to see more or less an entire show!
