Lost ABC Master Tapes Found

Lost ABC Master Tapes Found

Postby ApolloZero » Thu Jun 12, 2014 5:53 pm

Does this mean a new round of remasters on the horizon?

http://www.classicpopmag.com/2014/06/ex ... pes-found/

This week we can exclusively reveal that a dozen tapes from the early days of ABC have come to light containing rare mixes and unheard songs from the sessions for their first three albums: The Lexicon of Love, Beauty Stab and How To Be A Zillionaire.

From Zillionaire, there’s unheard remixes including a “That’s It Folks!” mix of So Hip It Hurts. From Beauty Stab, reams of early studio takes have come to light including one song, You And Me, that never made the final album. From the Lexicon of Love era, the group’s own, pre-Trevor Horn demos of All Of My Heart have come to light and – most bizarrely of all – a reel entitled “4 Ever 2 Gether – The Outtake, Starring Martin Fry as Ken Dodd”.

Look for the full story of how, when and where these tapes where found – and comments from a delighted Martin Fry – in issue 12 of Classic Pop, out 17 July.

I'm patiently waiting for a box set or a comprehensive singles collection. There's still some stuff that needs to be officially released:

1. Look Of Love (Special Ext. Remix) had appeared before but a good remastered version would be nice.
2. How To Be A Millionaire (UK 7")
3. Ocean Blue (Pacific Mix)
4. King Without A Crown (Single Mix) again a remastered version would be nice
5. King Without A Crown (Mendelsohn Mix) never before on cd. A vinyl rip appeared on one of those so80s compilations.
6. The Night You Murdered Love (7" Edit) never on cd before.
7. The Real Thing (Edit)
8. Viva Love (Full Length Version)

Any more tracks. There was talk about a box set some time ago that would include some Vice Versa stuff. No news as of yet.

Very cool. Would love to hear those other tracks.

They are long overdue for a boxset, which is why I am working on my own at:

Unless they reissue yet ANOTHER round of remasters to include these as bonus tracks, I have no idea how they will get these out. Maybe a boxed set, but would it sell enough copies in this day and age to make it feasible for the record label?

I'm not holding my breath......

I think the most logical thing would be to release a remixes & rarities set just like the upcoming Thomson Twins one. That way they could cover all the 12" versions that have yet to appear or haven't made it onto cd. Ofcourse there's pledgemusic as well.

I hope they can sort something out, like omar said a rare and remix cd would be great i hate not having everything released by a artist, pledgemusic would be a great idea if nothing were to come of this find.
