So 80s volume 9

So 80s volume 9

Postby cork » Thu Dec 18, 2014 2:36 pm

Titel: Blank & Jones present So80s (So Eighties) 9: (Deluxe Box)
Artist: Blank & Jones, Various
Vorab seien schon einmal diese kleinen Appetizer verraten: The Cure - „Pictures Of You (Extended Re-Mix)“, John Waite „Missing You (Extended Version)“, Joe Cocker „You Can Leave Your Hat On (Extended Dressed Mix)“.
Auf 3 CDs wird es aber auch erstmals besonders gesuchte Dub Versionen einiger ausgesuchter Künstler wie z.B. New Order geben. Natürlich wieder mit 40-seitigem Booklet incl. aller Original Cover Artworks und ausführlichen Liner Notes der Kuratoren Blank & Jones. Das Warten hat sich gelohnt!

2014 has been an exceptional year for Blank & Jones and their so8os [so eighties] brand: they not only released the critically acclaimed artist edition for ALPHAVILLE to celebrate their 30th anniversary, they were also asked to put their hands on the ZTT catalogue an reconstruct some of the finest 80s productions by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Propaganda and Art Of Noise.
2015 now starts with a „Bang!“:
It’s been 1,5 years since so8os Volume 8, but on Febuary 6th, the long awaited Volume 9 will hit the streets as a tripple CD Deluxe Box!
All three CDs will be filled with tracks from Original Master Tapes,
no vinyl rips. All unedited, unmixed pure Extended Versions!
Here are some sneak perviews: The Cure - „Pictures Of You (Extended Re-Mix)“, John Waite „Missing You (Extended Version)“, Joe Cocker „You Can Leave Your Hat On (Extended Dressed Mix)“. But on the 3 CDs you will also find some rare and much sought after Dub Mixes of some great 80s tunes crafted by masters like Shep Pettibone for New Order and others.
Of course the box will come with a 40 page booklet including all original 12“ cover artworks and liner notes by curators Blank & Jones.

very appropriate for a so80s release... the remix is from 1990 and has been released in 1990...

The single/remix was indeed released in 1990 (March 19th, to be exact), but the album from which it was taken was released in 1989. If you're going to disqualify any 80's-related release that came out after midnight 12/31/89, you really have to rethink your definition of "80's music."

It's a good remix, but I would have liked the 'album version' treatment on the Extended Re-Mix version.
That is: after the last verse ("there was nothing in the world ... etc."), the album version continues an instrumental part of the song which I would have liked to see in the new Extended Re-Mix version.
Sadly, this was NOT the case in the Extended Re-Mix version.

From the '7 inch point of view', I understand the shorter cut, but not for the Extended Re-Mix version.

This is what I like to share here. :D

I don't have to rethink anything... and it is nice to have on a collection.
But if an album is titled So80s, I expect the material to be not to be taken from later releases.
Otherwise you could include Blue Monday'95 where the original was released in 1983.
But these days one is rather used to such things anyway, so better to have the re-mix on the album than another Wham track...

Indeed. Maybe "Pictures of You [Extended Re-Mix]" should have been saved for a second volume of "so9os". :)

i'm pretty sure they will use the full extended remix which is 8m:07s,
which has never been released on cd.

I will be so bummed if they don't have either Secession's "Touch Part 3" or "Sneakyville (Extended)" on this 3 disc set.
I am a camera!!!

Not that crystal's petty complaint deserves so much attention, but technically this song was written and recorded in 1989, so it's very much an 80's track.

Indeed. This is very true, but couldn't one argue that perhaps the remix itself was done in early 1990?

It wasn't my intention to disturb anyone over just a fact that I pointed out. Simply don't like such things if true facts are mixed up (to say it in a Cure way). I'll be able to continue my life with the release being on the album as said above. If Blank+Jones (the true gods and only experts of eighties sounds... *cough*) intend their releases that way, fine.
