This is the acclaimed debut by Julian Cope his first solo effort after leaving the Teardrop Explodes and was originally released on Mercury records in 1984. It was written and recorded in 1983 at Julian's retreat in the village of Drayton Bassett, 2 of the songs featured were meant for the next Teardrop Explodes album (the original versions can be found on the aborted 3rd album Everybody Wants to Shag The Teardrop Explodes).
Although World Shut Your Mouth retained the up-tempo pop of The Teardrop Explodes, it was also an introspective and surreal work. Cope's contemporary vulnerability and childhood preoccupations informed the songs on the album, most notably on songs like "Head Hang Low" and "Sunshine Playroom".
Most of the album's tracks featured former Teardrops drummer Gary Dwyer, other contributors included lead guitarist/producer Steve Lovell , late-period Teardrops bass guitarist Ronnie François and the Dream Academy oboist Kate St. John.
This version contains a bonus disc of B-sides and sessions as well a new note by long time cope publicist Mick Houghton all contained in a 24 page booklet with rare photos and memorabilia

Fried was the second solo album by Julian Cope, released in 1984 by Mercury records (he would sign to Island shortly after this album was released). Cope retained guitarist Steve Lovell (and guest oboe player Kate St. John) from the previous album, but added Donald Ross Skinner on rhythm and slide guitars, former Waterboys drummer Chris Whitten and former Mighty Wah! Guitarist Steve "Brother Johnno" Johnson.
Notoriously, the sleeve featured a naked Cope crouched on top of the Alvecote Mound slag heap clad only in a large turtle shell.
Song topics and approaches included early examples of Cope's tendency to mythologise his own life and connect it to legend and ritual, "Reynard the Fox" combined English folktales with reference to Cope's notorious onstage stomach-slashing incident of the previous year; while "Bill Drummond Said" was a fable about Cope's former manager.
