Help with Depeche Mode 2006/2007 Deluxe Sets DVD Content

Postby Fred Taghon » Thu May 21, 2026 10:55 am

Hello all!

I'm sure most have likely heard by now that DVD's mfgd. by Warner Bros. from 2006-2008 are known to have been made with faulty materials and may be prone to disc rot. I learned about this a few months ago and decided I had better get to backing up any of the discs I might have in my collection. Among those, are the Depeche Mode CD/DVD sets from 2006/2007. I have 8 of the USA Sire/Rhino Records deluxe sets ("Speak & Spell" thru "Ultra") and unfortunately found that there were indeed some playability issues with "Speak & Spell", A Broken Frame", "Construction Time Again", "Some Great Reward" and "Ultra".

"Speak & Spell" will no longer load on my blu-ray player at all. It will, however, load on my computer. The only issue I've run into on my computer is the "A Short Film" video gets a little glitchy for a few minutes. I was still able to back up the entire disc as in ISO file, and was able to extract the DTS 5.1 album and the PCM stereo bonus audio tracks. The video from the ISO file is still a little glitchy at the same spot but less noticeable.

"A Broken Frame" will no longer load on my blu-ray player at all. It WILL load on my computer, but the only thing I was able to successfully extract was the DTS surround mix of the album and the PCM stereo bonus audio tracks. No luck extracting the "A Short Film" video.

"Construction Time Again" still mostly works. I can play the video and the DTS 5.1 surround mix of the album on my blu-ray player. The PCM stereo mix of the album is corrupt though. The disc will load on my computer and I was able to extract the DTS surround mix of the album and the PCM stereo bonus audio tracks. I couldn't back up the entire disc up as an ISO file, but was able to extract the "A Short Film" video as an MKV file, so I'm happy with that.

"Some Great Reward" will no longer load on my blu-ray player at all, and will not load on my computer either. So I was not able to extract anything from that disc.

Similarly, "Ultra" will no longer load on either my blu-ray player or my computer, so I couldn't extract anything from that disc either.

I was able to obtain the DTS 5.1 audio files for "Some Great Reward" and "Ultra" via an online source - so I'm now all set with the DTS surround mixes from all the sets, but I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with the three "A Short Film" videos from "A Broken Frame", "Some Great Reward" and "Ultra" in MKV format? Apparently Warner is offering replacement discs in circumstances where titles are still in print (you have to contact them at whv@wbd.com), but I don't believe any of these CD/DVD sets are in print any more. Wasn't sure where else to turn.

Thanks for reading and any help!

Just FYI, my DVD from the Yaz/Yazoo "In My Room" 2CD/1DVD box set (2008) appears to be fine. I was able to back it up as an ISO file and also extract the DTS 5.1 album audio.

Other music DVD's in my collection that are no longer operable:
Depeche Mode - "Touring The Angel" CD/DVD (2006)
Madonna - "The Confessions Tour" (2006]
Madonna - "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret" (2007)
Pet Shop Boys - "Cubism" (2007)

I have five of them: Speak & Spell, Some Great Rewards, Music For The Masses, Black Celebration, Speak & Spell. I tried mine and they all play normally.

The only DVD drive that I have is attached to my old VAIO Windows 7 laptop. It's old and tends to overheat when forced to do heavier tasks.

Anyway, after 3 tries, I managed to rip the DVD image of Some Great Rewards. I have no clue if the ripped is perfect or not. It seems to work on my Surface laptop.

Download the ISO here:

As the file is over 5GB, I will delete them when I'm running out of space.

Thank you for all your time and effort in doing this! Looks like i need a Mega account to download the file so I will try to do that tomorrow. As long as the video is playable, I'll be happy!!!

Do you know how to use torrents?

I can send you a link with their entire discography + DVDs.

I tried direct messaging, but looks like that still doesn't work. Whenever I tried to direct message anyone on NWO it just sits in my "Outbox" and then eventually seems to send a few weeks later. Doesn't anything just WORK anymore?

Thanks again for offering to help with the "Some Great Reward" ISO. Apparently I created a Mega account at some point (likely many years ago) but I only used it once or twice, and it won't let me create a new password so I can't transfer it via Mega. I have done torrents so we can try that. I only need the "Some Great Reward" file though, as I have pretty much everything DM has ever released in my collection already lol.

Thanks again for your help and patience!
