Big FUBAR on Hammerstein presales this morning. It said sold out as early 10:01am. Loads of pissed people. Looks like it was a computer glitch. The presale now looks to be back on as of about 1-2pm EST. The presale password is "greatesthits". I got first balcony even for a Saturday (really no bad seats at Hammerstein), so there's still probably other tix for other nights. Doubtful if that will be so by Saturday, which is the "official" sale date - no idea why the fuck they do this.

Absolutely fantastic show at Hammerstein Saturday night. I've never seen Morrissey in better form, and I've also never witnessed a better setlist. I don't normally gush about the Moz, but this might have been the most fun concert I've been to in 10 years. Morrissey was extremely engaging, making constant quips and being about as overtly gay as I've ever seen him with a variety of barely veiled puns, all driving the fat queens in the audience crazy.

The show started with some hilarious old video footage that seemed random, but I'm guessing somehow not - New York Dolls playing on Musik Laden, some really campy French singer, an old Untouchables episode where they're talking about protecting this 'Morrissey' character, and casting shots from East of Eden of James Dean and co-star Richard Davalos just standing in various poses that were for some reason hilarious without any audio. It immediately struck me that Davalos is also the face on the Strangeways Here We Come album - kind of a trip.

Then the curtain falls to reveal the giant stage backdrop, an strangely but intensely charismatic picture of a young Richard Burton with a drink in his hand. Some recorded music starts up as the crew walks onto stage - it's something by Klaus Nomi actually but I can't recall what. Then they commence to totally blow the audience away with a 1-2 retro opening punch of "Stop Me if You've Heard This One Before" and "Last of the Famous International Playboys"!

Favorite funny moment of the night: a twist on 'Playboys' lyrics, "In our lifetime those who kill...Fox news hands them stardom." Of course this crowd went insane over that.

Wife in literal tears moment of the night: courtesy of "Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me" - apparently her torturous grad school anthem.

Best PETA moment of the night: ripping fashionistas like Madonna, Kate Moss, and Victoria Beckham for wearing the pelt of other animals' babies while they're out walking with their own babies.

The 'Did he create this set specifically for my wife?' moments: playing both "Please Please Please..." AND "Stretch Out and Wait".

Most rocking moment of the night: going from a wryly self-loathing "Dear God", finished from a fetal position, to lashing into an ear-splitting rendition of "How Soon Is Now".

All in all, the show was hugely camp and hugely aimed to please. Raucous Saturday night audience. Great sound at Hammerstein. Fantastic time out with Wifie. I hear there are still some Sunday night tix available for $20. Highly recommened. The setlist...

Terrific review Mr. Blir.
It is great to hear Mrs. Blir finally got to have some fun at one of the concerts you attended!
I am guessing there was no Sangria drank last night? [;)]

Heh, we're actually busting out the sangria this weekend. [;)]

Here's a video of 'Playboys' from Saturday night. You can hear the crowd chorusing along - fantastic energy!
