I'm thinking maybe Britney Spears as the lead. She was so good in Crossroads. We would of course have to go pretty heavy with the aging make-up.

Britney eh,...interesting. You'd have to offset that talent with a strong male lead, who's on the short list?

True...you can never get too much talent in one production, the more the merrier.

The Office (US) started off trying to be too much like the British version but has since come into its own and now is a very good show.

Maybe Mariah Carrey could play her concerned friend. If it's for Lifetime, there has a to be a concerned friend, right? Just think, the stars of Crossroads and Glitter acting together for the first time.

There are maybe two at most concerned friends but I was thinking more along the lines of Rosie O'Donnell and Fran Drescher.

Although Mariah Carey got some big ass titties [:D][8D]. I'll fit her in somewhere.

Just make sure there is a cameo appearance for a self worshipping vegan urologist, with a love of bad poetry and electric reindeer.
I Love the Office! I'm also watching Season 2 on DVD, most of the deleted scenes are very good!

I've been holding off on the Britsh version, to be honest I've never liked Britsh TV. I've known people who rave on how much better foreign TV and movies are (mostly British an French), to the point they don't consider watching anything American. They always suggest something, I watch it, and it sucks. The last straw was "Amelie".
My condolences on sitting through that pile of rubbish, known as Amelie. If I wanna watch a good movie, I'll take anything from Italy over France, the UK, and the US. Television in the US is pretty damn good, though. US is king of sitcoms and police and detective dramas. No other country can match the US in those areas. Soaps are sorely lacking. North American soap operas lag big time. For that, Brasil and Venezuela got the market cornered. Gameshows are also better in Spanish (Sabado Gigante, for example). Cartoons look better when the Japanese produce them, for the most part. And so on and so forth. The original The Office is many times better than the American re-make. It's not a case of Three's Company, which completely overshadowed the original Man About The House. This is case of trying to gain the same level of comedic wit using the standard sitcom style, which, obviously, does not work when you wanna make a mockumentary.
XXX, you hit the nail on the head with your observations. Watered down was the key descriptor. The only other case aside from Man about the house being overshadowed by the american version is All in the Family outdoing Johnny Speight's "Till Death Do Us Part"

In my own humble opinion, I think The Office stinks. I recall watching the 1st 2 episodes and it was painful. The stilted "acting", the too-long pauses, the awkwardness, the lack of any real story, the lead guy's sexist remarks...ooof, never again. Not my cup o' tea.

I have also heard many times that the UK version is better.

Other than the theme song, this is a basically awful show, but NBC's inept president is in love with it, and refused to cancel it while it was stinking up the ratings and hurting anything unfortunate enough to air after it. As if that wasn't bad enough, NBC paid off critics to start saying good things about it (the initial reviews crucified it) and then went the whole nine yards and bought it an Emmy -- an Emmy that should have gone to "My Name Is Earl," except "My Name Is Earl" couldn't win on account of it got snubbed. Hell, "My Name Is Earl" should have won a special Emmy just for carrying "The Office" all last year.

I am embarrassed for anyone who honestly gives a crap whether or not Jim and Pam ever get together. Not since Mark Feuerstein and Ashley Williams in "Good Morning, Miami" has there been as electrifying an on-screen couple with as much chemistry as John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer.

Anyone remember NBC's Americanization of "Coupling?" While not perfect, I honestly thought it was loads funnier than their Americanization of "The Office." It was shitcanned after 4 weeks, mind. If only Mr. Ineptness had done the world a favor and shitcanned this turkey after 4 weeks. Well, I suppose on the bright side, now that "Earl's" ratings have hit the skids, "The Office's" don't look so bad anymore.

Kimiii, the British version airs frequently on BBC America if you get that channel. And I know that Comcast has it available ON DEMAND.

Hmmm. Maybe they paid the critics to download it also. LOL! Anyways, despite a few stinkers I've enjoyed most all the episodes thus far.
