Either private message the guy or write a better post telling everyone that they should do a search first.

P.S. This is NOT a real post that's been edited. It is a parody of the previous post (although I do agree with OBS sentiments). Marvymarv did not edit it, nor was it intended as anything directed towards him. It was more self-depricating than anything else since I am a stinky slob! ...it is made with loving humor (albeit BAD humor) and is not meant to offend anyone. As for obs' statement ... I hope that we as moderators never resort to deleting posts unless it's absolutely warranted. I can't have mods making things personal.

obs, maybe you're not aware but this isn't the first time in recent days that Phreddy has requested stuff that's "not obscure" so there's a little more reasoning behind it.

Maybe if you have a problem with a moderator, you should private message (can we even do that?) the guy first...




Although in Phreddy's defense, and I do feel I should say this even though no one asked, the "obscurity" of something is relative to the person looking for it. Yes Oakey & Moroder - Together In Electric Dreams is available on CD with most of those tracks on it, but how easy is it to find and how much would it cost?

Now I personally have only ever posted one song to the site, and don't plan on doing it again, unless it's something obscenely rare that only I seem to have. I don't have any animosity towards anyone who does do it however, that's just my preference.

I've said it before, but there should be honest rules for what gets put in that section of the board. All that's there now are suggestions and unless it is implicity stated, or there is a unanimous decison (the latter will never happen) such as "ONLY REQUEST/POST STUFF THAT'S OUT OF PRINT. PERIOD!" The "relative obscurity" of requests will frequently be called into question. And I am quite confident that someone could go in there and request the most basic song ever like: "Does anyone have Blondie - Call Me?" and SOMEONE would post it. Unless there are honest, actual enforceable rules about this, this will continue to happen, and moderators activities will always be called into question as well.

To be quite honest, I rarely ever go to that section of the board. But I gotta side with Marvy on this one. Tough luck Phreddy, but there are other and more prudent ways of finding songs than just asking for them on here, even though, in my opinion, what was asked for was rare enough, once again "relative obscurity."

This is indeed a sticky situation and cool clear heads need to prevail.

IMO, Marv knows his role full well and is wise enough not to pull crap like what has been alleged.

The individual in the referenced thread was informed of forum policy first via email and normally this should have sufficed.

However, such was not the case in this instance and the moderation action taken was well within Marv's justification to do so.

Folks, this is what happens when the reigns are gathered up and site policy is enforced after recent revisions.

People who were accustomed to a seemingly Laissez Faire policy will certainly get rankled when they are called out on the first enforcement sweep.

I must say, given all the recent angst and invective put forth in these forums, it has made it fertile ground for casting doubt and suspicions on the 'management' and other members hence, the recently 'announced' departures from the board.

Sorry, but Mike P. has since spoken both in the forums and to certain individuals who were long overdue for a 'tap on the shoulder'.

As members of this public forum, you are free to disagree with such policies and manner of enforcement, but in the end it's HIS BOARD.

Also, in Marv's defense ... DJ_Phat_Phreddy disguised a request in the form of a share featuring the album versions obtainable on CD. At first glance, you can see why me or the mods might view this as attempting to be sly or underhanded. I know it's been "Anything goes" for so long here, it's hard to believe we might actually start cracking down but it's got to happen folks. I don't need the RIAA poking their nose in here as much as I loathe them.

What was written in that particular post was confrontational. How would you feel if a police officer gets in your face?

Yes, there is a time when you have to be confrontational. If the dude has already been warned a couple of times, then obviously, time for being nice has passed. But when it starts getting nasty, that is the time for private messaging. Actually, maybe you can't PM here, but I think moderators can contact people via email.


I don't necessarily object to posts being deleted either. However, posts shouldn't just disappear into vapour. Moderators should edit the offending post and state what the problem was (preferably publicly, but at the very least, privately).


Why did I post all this in the forum instead of practicing what I'm trying to preach and do a PM? So we can all discuss this, get opinions, and make the forum a better place. Moderators everywhere don't exactly have to pass a test to get the job, you know [:)].

I'm not complaining about any of MikeP's rules either. Notice that it wasn't me who was under fire here.

Wrong. They have passed a "test". They've all shown a long track record of "moderation", long before johnny-come-lately's come harping from the peanut gallery, thinking they know everything that's going on. They're just peers who've stuck their necks out trying to help out while plenty others have taken a pass. It's a shit job that has seen lots of snide bullshit lobbed at them. Like 2nu has said, if there's not enough modding, they get shit; if there's too much, they get shit. It can't and won't be perfect all the time. Example, I personally don't like to see edits within someone's post, it's their words and their's only, "sacred" - delete it instead if you must. But on the balance this place is pretty tolerant and hands off.

There's always room for constuctive discussion, but your transparently disingenuous shit-stirring can't remotely be called that. And are you stalking Marv or just in love with him? You seem to appear in an awful lot of his threads...creep.
