With MTV's 25th birthday rolling around Aug 1st I was wondering how many of you were there the instant it hit the air? We had just got cable installed about a week before it aired so I was fortunate enough to catch it at it's inception.

Close, but no cig.

I caught it a couple times at a buddy's house in, I guess, late 1981, early 1982. (First kid I knew who had it.) We got cable installed in the Summer of 1982. With money I made mowing lawns. Ain't child labor grand? Well, I got no complaints. It was a long way from the days of having one channel (RTE).

I can still remember the video that came on when me and my brothers finally succeeded in getting it hooked up. Tommy Tutone's "Which Man Are You."

I saw it. Man did it change! Now instead of music videos, look at the shows! Yo Mamma?! What the fuck?! Mtv raps? Cribs? Most of the shows now are just people rapping insults at each other. Total suckfest!

The first time I saw MTV was in late 1991. It was starting to circle the drain then, but it hadn't completely gone down yet. I so wish I had seen it in the beginning.

<p align="justify">I watched it back around 1985 when cable teevee first came to Central America. Before that, you had to buy a parabolic antenna to get those channels. eMpTyV was pretty good for a part of the 90s. It was around the time Shitney Spears, N-Stink, and Metal-Rap took over in the late 90s that it sunk to the bottom[xx(]

Jeez...I watched when it first came on, and sat transfixed watching the same 30-some videos play over and over again. My folks had to pry me away from the TV. Up until then, it was a big FN deal to see videos on Casey's Top Ten or that video show on HBO (I forget what it was called). To get a entire channel with nothing but videos and a occasional concert was kick-ass. Lost count of how many times they played the Kinks "Come Dancing" the first few weeks they were on. WTF happened to Mtv? It's totally worthless now.

Video jukebox was on HBO.

My cable system didn't pick MTv up until a year or so after its debut. I had to go over to a cousin's apartment to watch it, and we were both transfixed by it!

It was about a year after its inception that we got it.
It was about 5 years later that I stopped watching it.[;)]

I remember seeing Madness - One Step Beyond quite often, as well as Duran Duran - Rio, and Thomas Dolby - She Blinded me with Science.

NBC ran Friday Night Videos for a long time (from July 29, 1983 to May 24, 2002) with the lovely Rita Sever from 1996 to the end.

Since I lived in the boonies--and since everytime the cable company talked about adding MTV people freaked out because it was going to corrupt all us young'uns--I'm so glad I at least got to watch Friday Night Videos and Night Tracks on TBS.

We finally got MTV in 1991, like I mentioned above, which is pretty funny. I find it hard to believe Duran Duran videos were going to ruin my little mind. The complete and utter B.S. on there now is what is worrisome.
