Unbelievable lawsuits

Postby enzfan » Mon Jul 31, 2006 10:48 am

I saw this on Mind Of Mencia the other night and thought it was fabricated, but upon researching it's true. Nice touch the guy being a minister last named Christian.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A minister and his wife sued a guide-dog school for $160,000 after a blind man learning to use a seeing-eye dog trod on the woman's toes in a shopping mall. Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc., a 13-year old guide-dog school and the only one of its kind in the Southeast, raises and trains seeing-eye dogs at no cost to the visually impaired. The school is located about 35 miles south of Tampa. The lawsuit was brought by Carolyn Christian and her husband, the Rev. William Christian. Each sought $80,000. The couple filed suit 13 months after Ms Christian's toe was stepped on and reportedly broken by a blind man who was learning to use his new guide dog, Freddy, under the supervision of an instructor. They were practicing at a shopping mall. According to witnesses, Ms Christian made no effort to get out of the blind man's way because she "wanted to see if the dog would walk around me". Should we blame this one on the Jews, too? [:(!]

I just got my ass kicked in my lawsuit -- even though we proved they willfullly infringed my copyright, the justice system is phuking me -- I may end up being responsible for the defendant's costs after their offer to settle back in Dec. 2005 (they took 21 months to finally offer the amount that they did). It's a really long story.

This is so messed up -- did I get justice? No.

Dan,

I'm sad to hear about that. It seems anymore that the justice system has shifted to protect the criminal, while screwing the innocent. I hope that whatever happens with your case now will work out for you.

As for the Christian couple and their frivolous lawsuit: Is there any more information about this case? Has it already been ruled? Has everything been pointing in their favor, or does the guide-dog school stand a chance? Where's Hexicon--isn't she our resident law-gal? I'd love to know what she thinks.

Every time I hear of frivolous lawsuits I get so hot under the collar. It's amazing how logic does not prevail in cases such as these.

Hell, I won a joke of a lawsuit thrown at me years ago, but I would have spent thousands less if I just settled. Our judicial system is a sick joke.

And since our judicial system is a necessary part of the checks and balances that support our freedoms aren't we really screwed without it?

LMAO!I always wanted to find a real dumb reason to sue, you can sue for anything thesedays. If I saw a bllindman coming with his dog I'd get out of the way just a you would for anybody else and a few choice words gets it out your system if somebody steps on your toe. [}:)]

Nice Marve. Unfortunately the story you got is wrong. It was a man that spilled his coffee in his lap in a reaction to burning his mouth on same. He had first and second degree burns on his penis and balls according to his lawyer.

Than there is the issue of me making a simple true statement and you trying to turn it into a bash, please stay on topic. There are plenty of other threads where I've said things that you can bash me for and generally satisfy your need to look cool at my expense. Not that I actually care.

I don't know what you're talking about stella. I am completely on topic. The aim of this thread begs the discussion of.....Unbelievable Lawsuits. As does the book I provided the link for. But keep going babe, your goofiness never ceases to amuse.

Then maybe it's time to revive the "ass-hat" moniker. But only if you keep calling me "marve" [;)]

oy, that McDonalds hot coffee case occured right here in Albuquerque, before I moved here. There are many folks here who are embarrassed by the attention that stupid lawsuit brought to our fair city. B/c not everyone is sue-happy here like that.

Wow, the Stella story is actually a very interesting one...the McDonalds story that is. Ignoring numerous web pages that seem to just repeat what others say, here's a few sources of varying opinions, indeed more complex than what you may believe:

http://www.overlawyered.com/2005/10/urb ... liebe.html

Stella's still an asshat though...for being wreckless with scalding liquid of course! [}:)]
