I lived in a haunted house once. Really-no--Im not nuts--On the East Side of Providence.

House was a cool house-huge-15 monster size rooms. The front living room was about 35 feet wide , 15 feet deep with 12 foot ceilings. The room was sound proofed and the windows were about 6 feet tall. There was a rope pully system to pull over wooden sliders that totally blocked the windows out. Tacky metallic wallpaper in the room from about 4 feet off the floor and up. A runner board at the edge of the wallpaper and then wood the bottom 4 feet.

When we rented this place there was only 1 piece of furniture in the house--a couch with no legs against the wall in this room.

Logically Im sure there are explanations for things that happened there-but I prefer to think the place was haunted.

My room had one of those paper globes over a light fixture in the middle of the ceiling. There was a blue light in the fixture when we rented so I kept it. Looked pretty cool. We went out to The Living Room-local awesome club one night. I always kept my door to my room shut. I think it was The Lords of the New Church we went to see. When we got home that night, when I opened my door (I kept the light on while out--looked like a giant blue moon from the outside-room on second floor)there was a huge bat flying in circles around the globe.
Hmmmmmm....

The doors in the bedrooms had large keyholes in them. I had a light up tiki thing that claimed if the eyes flicker, there was a spirit about. I was on my bed, My girlfriends dog was on the bed and the window to my room was shut, as was the door. The dog started growling at the door. I went to the door and an icy strong draft was coming in the keyhole. I opened the door--no draft at all. I checked all windows upstairs--my roommates rooms-bathroom-phone room (a room in which there was nothing but a phone and a small chair )-all windows shut. I shut my door again. Icy breeze returns. Dog growls again. And oh yeah--this was summer.

One of my roommates into Aldous Huxley tarot cards. He would read them and was actually good. About a year prior he carved a small cross into his arm and the scar always stayed. One night he woke up screaming--his room was next to mine. He was freaking out saying that he had a dream that bright light was shooting out of the intersection of the cross on his arm. He turned the light on and the cross had turned a bright red while he slept. I thought he was whacked. He said when he woke he saw a figure standing over him. I just kinda laughed him off--did he go to bed high that night?

About two weeks later I was heading upstairs to my room--the staircase was this huge winding spiral type of staircase-and I looked up and thought I saw the figure of a man.Very vividly. I get upstairs and say "John, Wierd thing-thought I just saw a guy on the staircase here." Before I could finish-he described exactly what this guy looked like. It was the figure he said was standing over him when he woke up that night and he had not previously described the figure-just that it was a guy.

The upstairs configuration of the house was bizarre--one huge long hallway that varied in hieght and width as you walked. The bathroom was at the very far end from my room. There was a bed room about 2/3's the size of the front living room that had to be passed to get to the bathroom. We passed this room every day many times. Nothing was odd about it. it was totally empty.. One day while heading to the bathroom I looked in and the window directly opposite of the door was totally covered-a la Amityiville--with flies. Each individual pane was maybe 12x 16-big windows with big panes-and about 4 panes were totally covered with flies no light got through. In addition, the other panes had many flies. And these were those dump truck size flies-not newbies littleones. Where they came from in one day? Hmmmmmmmm.......

Many other odd things happened, too many to mention. But then there was the couch. The one with no legs. All this time we never moved that couch. Until one day--dont even know why.

Behind the couch were two wooden doors. We opened the doors. The opening was bricked up. On the other side of the wall where the opening of the doors would be, there was a room we did not use. The dimensions were odd. We wanted to see if the bricks were just a wall but the room adjoing the living room did not actually butt right up to the living room. (Hope Im being clear) There was about a foot and a half space sealed up between both rooms. What was in there?

Should we have broken into it? Probably.Did we? No.

We didnt want to be cursed.[:0]

That is the coolest story ever!

I thought my house was neat cause it was big and has hidden rooms...but dang. I got nothing.

I wish I had ghosts.

That is awesome.
Randy, you are officially awesome in my book of awesomeness.

I love watching anything paranormal.I also get a bit of the creeps watching this stuff. I can`t wait for the new season of Ghost Hunters.

Randy, that sounded like a cool house you lived in. Damn, I wish my house was Haunted. I would love to buy the equipment & explore a Haunted location. That would be RAD [8D].

Don't you want to go back & find out if the new tenants/owners have checked it out? Not knowing would kill me.

I'm real tempted to watch this show. I love scary stuff. Unfortunately, if I do watch it, I'll be looking over my shoulder for a month and probably won't go in the basement for the rest of the year. I still have problems with the basement after the Blair Witch & how many years ago was that????

This piqued my interest, so I went to the Discovery website and clicked on The Haunting button. Then I watched all the minute and-a-half snippets that they had. The one about the tape recorder on the stairs looks spooooky! I love that stuff. In fact, I love it more now that I live in a place where there is less of a chance of weird people wandering by my house.

Randy, that is a CREEPY story. Did you find out more history on the house? I want to know what was between those rooms, and why there was a sofa left in the house when you moved in. That's just weird.

<p align="justify">I never understood a couple of things about ghosts. For one, how come they wear clothes? Also, how come they look like transparent people? Transparent people + clothes = ghosts?! Nevermind that they tend to choose to appear (or haunt) old, dark, abandoned places. How come they never show up when I'm having a bbq with family and friends, or when I'm checking out the chicks at the beach. Who set these rules up for ghosts that they must look and appear only a certain way? Heck, don't even get me started on how ghosts know how to speak your language without the aid of actual lungs[xx(]

I don't believe in ghosts. If they exist, I've never been bothered. Maybe they know it's pointless, that if one were to try and introduce him/herself, I'd just blame it on too much to drink...

Great reply Randy.I to have had a ghostly encounter in my parents house. It was Nov 80 about six weeks after my old man died and it involves a very expensive (60,s prices) cabinet stero.Back in 1966 my parents bought a 100+ year old coach/farm house about twelve miles out of town and totaly refurbihed it and moved in permanantly in 1974.My fathers parents lived there until thier deaths in 1968 and 69 then it was rented for two years befor the renovations began.I must add that my father had a bad car accident in 68 and should have had a leg amputated but refused(64 studebaker vs elm tree, elm tree wins)instead the surgeon removed his left knee cap and fused his leg together with nuts, bolts rods etc and he walked with a noticeable step, clump, step, clump. This would later kill him due to blood poisining. Now back to the stereo.I was forbidden to use this stero and was given some 50$ piece of shit from K mart which I detested. We actually came to blows over the use of this stereo in 1978 so there may have been some negative energy around it.Fast forward to Nov 80 I,m working in a tire shop the old mans dead and I got free reign on the cabinet stereo.I come home one cold November night around 8 dog tired and then some ,eat some take out, grab some wine and head for the living room. Now this room was the parents show piece antiques and top line furniture. My usual routine was pull a very large ottoman footstool(4or 5ft) in front of the stereo grab a large crystal ashtray(3or4lbs)and drink, smoke and listen to my new found love of punkrock.I also must add both my parents were nonsmokers and although I was allowed to smoke in the house NEVER in the living room. Now on this particular night I,m sitting there enjoying the tunes and a drink when I notice movement to my right as I was sitting on the ottoman.I still can remember to this day for a split second I thought "great ,a mouse" then to my amazement that heavy crystal ashtray travelled off the ottoman on to a very expensive rug.So I think "aw fuck" and pick up the butts and put the tray back on the ottoman and continue for a few moments. Then I think how did that happen? So I put the ash tray right on the edge of the ottoman and start slapping the surface thinking the vibrations from the stereo did it(yeah right)of course being a heavey ashtray it did not move. Then I start getting a little spooked as my mother had gone out and I was alone in the house. So I get up turn the stereo off and again I see movement out the corner off my eye.Well this time at the end of a couch are two end tables with about 4ft high crystal table lights about halfway up these lights is a decorative piece with six crystal icicles about 6or8 in long,on one of those lights one icicles was moving back and forth. So I walk over thinking the heat duct must be behind the couch, then it hit me it would not be just one moving.I then get the hell out of there and go into the rec room where my mother had lit the wood stove before she left trying to comprehend what I just witnessed. As I was standing in front of the woodstove there was a clock on the wall that had not worked in months, well, you guessed it that clock started to tick right above my head. The last thing I remember is turning the tv on and sitting there until my mother arrived.I knew I was moving out in the spring of 81 so I never told her until years later. There were afew other strange things that happened, a set of porceline bathroom taps blew apart in the night in the mid 80,s(that scarred the crap out of my mother)and an Aunt and Uncle were staying overnight in the mid 80,s when my Uncle woke to hear pounding in the basement three floors down.He told me years later there was no way he was checking it out.The stangest of all was years after the oldman died a cousin of mine told me that she was the first person from out of town to arrive to help with the funeral and the same day the oldman died she slept in the house and for some strange reason she woke up around 3 am and she will tell you till this day she heard downstairs step, clump, step clump.Yes,she loves to tell the story the night she heard the dead walk.On a side note when the Grandparents lived there in 60,s as a step going into a long gone woodshed they were using an infants tombstone from the late 1800,s that had been buried on the property(I hope was not them that used it as a step originaly). When we moved in there was still alot of rubble to be cleared after the renovations and the man had slated the tombstone to go,for some reason even at 14 I did not think that was smart and took it and stashed it in the implement shed where it remains to this day,it will remain with the house.Well there you have it folks,I hope I didn,t bore you but that is why I have an interest in things that go bump in the night. As long as it ain,t my house.
