Ipod Video question

Postby lal008 » Wed Aug 16, 2006 7:43 am

My husband recently bought me my first iPod with a video screen , but I haven't put any videos on it yet because I am not sure where the best place is to get them. Is iTunes the only place to download videos?

You can download them from anywhere....be fully aware that the video ipod not only doesnt play any video...but it playes QuickTime only....and not only QuickTime....but QuickTime specicifically formatted for Ipod Video....Itunes can change your vids over to the proper QuickTime...provided they are QuickTime in the first place....

You have to find a video player...but you can download videos from Limewire, DC++. There are plenty of stupid videos available on albinoblacksheep.com, ebaumsworld.com, and other equals...

But something has got to convert them to QuickTime before you even think about waiting forever for Itunes to (only some of the time) convert it to Video Ipod format.

I am the semi-proud owner of a 60Gb ipod video....and I speak from hoardes of experiance having owned it for a good 8 months now.

Ugggh. That sounds horribly complicated. Can you tell that I am not up on all of this "new" technology? I was very disappointed to find I couldn't (easily) get videos off of You Tube, because of course that was my first thought when I got the iPod.

Another thing is that in the past, we bought a lot of songs from Yahoo Music Engine and I haven't figured out a way to get them off of the music engine to the iPod either.

Very convoluted. You have to get software that will convert your videos into what they call "MP4"'s. I purchased software called X-ipod video converter which is available at http://www.2haveit.com/listdetail.php?id=28328

Keep in mind it will not work with every videos. Also, don't get your hopes up of automatically saving videos from youtube. It practically requires another program, or better yet, I guess you could ask someone to send you the desired video which you can then see if you're possibly successful to convert.

Download PodTube. It's freeware for the Mac (assuming you're using a Mac), and will download, encode, and format YouTube vids then dump them in iTunes to be transfered to your iPod.

No - don't have a mac. But thanks everyone for your answers. I think I will be able to figure it out. I guess the main goal is to get the videos to the special iTunes format.
