Video NAME THAT TUNE: The Un-Guitar Solo

Postby Frau_Blucher » Sun May 07, 2006 7:29 am

Rock was typified by the classic guitar solo - all well and good. But the 80s had tons of musical interludes driven by synths, pianos, horns, strings, and even some guitar solo mockery. This Name That Tune Game has all of this latter stuff. It's not all necessarily New Wave - a couple of non-New Wave 80s tracks plus a reminder at the end that we didn't exactly invent this idea. [;)]

There are 25 video clips in the linked video below. Any Quicktime-loaded computer should be able to play it - email me if you have issues. Just guess the Artist and Title to each song. The game is on a 75 point basis - 1 point for each Artist, 2 points for each Title. Email back the answers after you're done (my email is in the form). Make sure to include your forum name so I know who you are. I'll immediately send back the Score and Answer Sheet and take YouSendIt requests for later posting. Please remember NOT to post your responses here!

Here's the clip link, right-click (or control-click on Mac) to download - it likely WON'T play in-line:

Here's the link for the response form, right-click to download:
The Video NTT Blank Form

The game will end on Sunday May 21th at 8PM EDT.

BTW...are people able to DL and view this video??

Let me guess which 2. The jazz combo and the hair metal band?

I never turn in entries because I suck at identifying the tunes. When did Alton Brown leave the kitchen and start doing performance videos? [:D]

Okay, it is raining in biblical proportions here on the east coast. A perfect time to play Video NTT I say! This one's cake. A few good scores already. Give it a crack!

I really enjoyed this game, Blir. Thanks for putting it together. Excellent selection of videos with lots of variety. For all of you who haven't played yet, you should give it a try. Even if you don't submit your answers, it is still a lot of fun to play.

I wonder what everyone else considers fair play in this type of game. Sometimes, if I don't recognize a tune right off, I'll comb my collection for it and see if I can find it. Is this considered cheating or being resourceful? The dork in me is curious.

Game Update

Going into the final days of VNTT4 (and likely the final days of NTT period [V]), we've got 3 submissions and an 49% average. Game ends this weekend.

...and it's all fair game. The only point is to enjoy it.
That's too bad, Blir. I'd hate to see these games go. I hope some more members decide to take 10 minutes to play this game, and help keep these 'Name That Tune' games alive.

Thanks to you and Fritzb for putting them together [:)]

Please don't get me wrong...I'm not bemoaning anything or begging attention to the game. Just simply saying if it's run it's course, it's run it's course. If not, not.

Final Updates

Wow, big boost in scores and activity leading into the weekend. The average has jumped to 50pts or 67% with some BIG scores. This one looks like a good balance between obvious ones, some tricky ones, and just a couple of stumpers...although ALL the videos have been accounted for by one person or another. Keep 'em coming if you got 'em. Game ends Sunday.

Just download the latest Quicktime and you should be able to open it in either RealPlayer, Quicktime or WMP itself. If you can't play it, you likely haven't updated your audio/video codec in awhile. Go here...

I bow down to anyone who gets #22. For me, it was by far the hardest clip of the bunch. It didn't even register a slight hint of recognition in me, and I've heard the song and seen the video before.
