Album You Wished You Never Bought?

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

Ugh, where to start..

Hayzee Fantayzee - Battle Song for etc. etc. - Aural wankery between two talentless nobodies. Considering the bloke behind this was the one in charge of Animal Magnet he should of known better.

Devo - Greatest Hits. Greatest Hits? Greatest Shits more like.

Sandra - Long Player. Bought on the strength of "I'll Never be Maria Magdalena". The rest of the album is nowhere near as good.

Private Lives - Prejudice & Pride. Cures insomia or your money back.

Doll by Doll - S/T. Caritas is a great song. The rest of the album is mediocre to say the least.

Dead Boys - Young, Loud and Snotty. Never has an album failed to live up to its promise. "Sonic Reducer" is a punk classic, but the rest? Bleh.

Pigbag - Best of. Includes the hit and many piss-poor versions of said hit.

Los Microwaves - Life After Breakfast. "Time To Get Up" is a quirky likeable song, the rest of it shows that they're one-trick ponies.

Industry - Stranger to Stranger. I hope selling out for your handful of magic beans was worth it. NOWHERE near as strong as their early material.

Endgames - Building Beauty. The synth stuff is good, but this only makes up a fraction of the album. The rest is crappy white funk.

Mummy Calls - S/T. Loved "Let's Go", the rest? UGH! Blandness to extreme.

I hate this album immensely, and was considering putting it as a runner-up. Sometimes there's just something to be said for not being unique. I don't understand how anyone can listen to it all the way through without wanting to impale their eardrums with a pencil.

On the other hand, I really like five of the other albums you listed. Different strokes!

Did these guys do any business in Europe? EMI released one single here ["Living in a World (Turned Upside Down)"] with no push, no airplay, and a dull video, and the record sank like a lead balloon. The producer didn't do a very good job, admittedly, although I do think there's some great songs on there that rise above the limp production. Namely "No Chance You'll Pay" and "God Only Knows." "Living in a World" has the strongest melody on the album, but the weakest arrangement. The instrumental break (or what passes for it) is a good 10-20 seconds shorter than it should have been.

David Bowie's first "Tin Machine" release. Some people think its great. I think it's noise.

In my opinion the best album in the last 15 years.

Hey--don't bash Lydia! She's talented and she's still hot.

That said, her artistic talents are much better suited for poetry and <del>pornography</del> photography rather than music.

As bands release LP's further into their career,
I've found that they either change their sound
or direction or producer. The result is almost
always the same, disappointment.

Soft Cell - the Art of Falling Apart (expected more, much more)
Duran Duran - Seven & the Ragged Tiger (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)
Producers - Run For Your Life (played once and sold it)
Smiths - Rank (worst live LP ever)
u2 - Joshua Twig (disliked it before radio killed it by overplay)
Elvis Costello & the Attractions - Blood & Chocolate (bad, just bad)
Love & Rockets - Earth, Sun, Moon (bland, bleah, gloom)
Cure - Disintegration (Fascination St. is a dead end)
Wall of Voodoo - Seven Days in Sammystown (where's Stan?)
Propaganda - 1234 (where's Claudia?)
Oingo Boingo - Boingo (no horns, tried to be grunge)
Cure - Show (2nd worst live LP ever)

...and I haven't felt so alive, in years.

That's the thing. I thought her verses sounded more poetic than musical, and I consider her talented, but the MUSIC itself was horrible! But you know what ? I could give it a listen today and may have a different opinion.

The lead track over here was "Living in a World (Turned Upside Down)"
It spent four weeks in the chart reaching 53, the album did nothing.

You're right about the production and this would explain the reason why I found it so bland.

madonna - american life

i was excited about this album because music and ray of light were really good. such a disappointment, in my opinion. it was boring.

thankfully, she didn't repeat the same mistakes on confessions.

I can't see the appeal of that album, but horses for courses.

As for their early work, the question is Are You Ready For The Wave?

Mine would be the debut album by Phantom Rocker and Slick, the remnents of the Stray Cats after Brian Setzer left. Being heavily into the Cats i was suckered into this purchase.

Yes, but "Time Will Crawl" is an awesome song from that cd.
