My copy arrived today. The packaging itself is top-notch. It's a double gatefold with both CDs and the DVD occupying their own slots cut into the cardboard. The CD booklet is outstanding with a 3 page foreword written by Holly Johnson in October, 2010. There are pictures sprinkled throughout along with song lyrics. The mixes on disc 2 have additional information as to where they originally appeared.
Now, on to the bone of contention. I just finished listening to the Justin Strauss Extended Remix of Americanos (aka the Extended Mix), and I didn't hear any noticeable crackling. I'm playing the CD on my iMac using a Bose Companion 3 version 2 2.1 speaker setup. It's by no means audiophile, but I'm happy with the sound. The beats section that starts about 5:45 - 5:46 into the song has no obvious crackling that I can discern. The last few seconds when it just drops to beats and a whistle also don't sound like there's any crackling or popping. Maybe my ears aren't good enough to hear it. I'll defer to the experts and the waveforms on this one.
Stuff like this would never get released nowadays without these smaller labels. If it's not perfect, I understand the frustration and unmet expectations aspect as well as any sense of being misled. If there's finger wagging that needs to be done, I'll not stand in the way of making the customer satisfied with their purchase.
I guess I'm just happy that it got released, and in such a pleasant form, at that! I never owned any of the mixes off this album. To be honest, I never paid much attention to Holly's solo career even though I was a big FGTH fan, having played WTTPD too many times to count.
Thanks for the great memories, Holly. I'm having a Blast with Blast! Now put something new out! We miss you.
