Actually, two members of the Ramones (I'll have to look up to remind me which ones) supported Bush for his re-election. A friend of mine and I--longtime fans of alternative 80's were absolutely shocked. He asked me, does this mean Miss Evelyn Togar has won?

Liberal some social issues (e.g. legalize it!), conservative on defense and economy, so I guess that makes me a Libertarian. But I don't "belong" to any political party.

btw, I'm a Christian.

Nice to see so many fellow Libertarians here...Gee, with so many Libertarians around you'd expect more than 1% Libertarian turnouts during elections.

Lots of Libertarians here. I assume that includes support for the right to bear arms, something I've never been able to come to grips with.

So I ended up Liberal Democrat... mostly because of social issues. "Fiscally conservative", too... and I have certainly drifted a bit more to the center over the years.

I was even a volunteer for Gary Hart's presidential campaign waaaaaay back in 1983. Remember him?

Thanks, KYYX4ever. I thought so. :)

I think (now this is only my theory here) there are so many libertarians (and people who call themselves "liberals") because the New Wave family tree has as its base classic punk, which was all about self-expression, individuality, and independence. We are all unique and unlike most of the rest of the members of our communities. Those of you who were actually part of the original New Wave era probably dressed in ways that were unlike that of your average young person of said era, and those of us who came after that era express our individuality by mere fact of our being into New Wave in the first place (especially those of us who were teens in the '90s). So libertarianism/classic liberalism are both up the average New Waver's alley.

edisonoside, I can't answer your question, sorry.

Growing more and more suspicious of the whole bunch. Why is it always that it seems you've to vote for the lesser evil? So, I'd say Democrats (for the US) and Social Democrats (for my mother country, Germany).

Your right Plastik44. It is a shame that we have to vote for the lesser of two evils. I can't say I am either party anymore. We really need an Independent party here in the U.S.

I guess I lean more to Libertarianism (although with some hesitation). My problem with Libertarians in that many of them consider it to be a "political party for those who hate political parties." Thus, Libertarians vary a great deal and it's hard to find two who can agree on every issue.

So to lay it all on the table...I'm pro-choice, pro-right to bear arms, pro-capital punishment, pro-gay marriage, anti-affirmative action (mainly on the ground that it cheapens the achievements of minorities who made it fair and square [i.e. an African-American or a Hispanic might be the smartest person in the school, but with affirmative action in place, might be unfairly looked at by the other students as someone who only made it there "because of affirmative action"]), pro-capitalism (but NOT on the grounds that free markets are somehow a better system or that they serve "the greater good"--I actually don't believe that. It's more along the lines of believing in the ideology of free markets), pro-property rights, anti-censorship of ANY sort, anti-organized religion, pro-war (but anti-torture and ironically, I'm pro-"laws of engagement" and minimizing civilian casualties as much as possible including not bombing funerals even if terrorists are hiding there. I also hate the lazy argument that "we should have either sent a lot more troops or not sent any at all." Finally, I think that going to war to protect corporate interests overseas is actually justifiable), anti-laws against recreational drug use, anti-illegal immigration (but I strongly disagree with rounding up those who are already here and sending them back across the border), and pro-environment (I believe in global warming). Did I miss anything?

I think you pretty much covered it. And you're on the same side as I am on every single issue with the exception that I would round up all illegal aliens and send them back and I'd bomb a funeral.

That's cool with me. That's a pretty high match rate, and I don't think I'll ever find someone who shares all my views.

I can give further explanation to why I feel the way I do about those two points:

1. I think when fighting a war, you're trying to achieve certain geopolitical objectives besides simply "destroying the enemy." One of these is to mitigate any potential loss of stature with citizens of your own country or of nations who are "on the fence" about supporting you in a war. It's somewhat like the analogy of "losing a battle to win the war." Appearances do count (just ask Israel how well it's doing).

2. I do think that many illegals have been here for years and years with no intention of assimilating and are a drain to our system (especially the health care system). However, dumping people back in the desert seems a little harsh (it's one of the few cases where I think the punishment exceeds the crime). I say we cut our losses on the people who are already here and put all that effort we spend in rounding people up into preventing them from sneaking across in the first place. Border control isn't just against Mexico. It's against terrorism too.
